Important information about the GSM/GPRS (2G) and HSPA (3G) Network Retirement
Updated: June 2025
As of July 31, 2025, the 3G (HSPA) network will be officially retired. Canadian wireless carriers are in the process of shutting down their legacy GSM (2G) and HSPA (3G) networks. As a result, any device relying on these older technologies will eventually no longer function on any major Canadian network.
What This Means for You:
Devices that are not compatible with newer network technologies may experience:
- Degraded voice and text services
- No or significantly slower data
What You Need to Do:
- Check your device’s IMEI to determine if it operates on GSM (2G) or HSPA (3G) networks.
- If your phone is not compatible, you will need to upgrade to an unlocked 4G LTE device that supports:
- LTE Bands: 2, 4, 7, and 66
- VoLTE (Voice over LTE) capability
Looking Ahead:
We are preparing for a future network migration, and additional details will be shared soon. This transition will provide:
- Greater network coverage
- Enhanced service value
